I'm always finding crazy things at my grandma's house, but nothing prepared me for this startling discovery.  After inspecting the back of a seemingly innocent spoon from an old Japanese jelly serving set, I was startled to see that not only did it say "Made in Japan", but there was something quite sinister engraved on the back.

Instead of "Silver Plated" it actually says, "Silver PRATED" on it!  Holy crap!  I thought they only made that stuff up in bad movies from the 50s!  Could it be that people in Japan really talk that way?  Is this the real reason why my wife's Japanese boss cringed when I told her we might name our daughter "Lillian?"   The other spoon in the set says the exact same thing, as well!
