A LOOK AT THE SUPER 8 FILM CLASSIC: "VOODOO DEVIL CATS FROM BEYOND THE GRAVE (1985)"

Back in 1985, my friend Bill and I wasted a lot of time and cash making very very stupid movies with his mom's Super 8 camera.  Though camcorders were certainly around at the time, they were fairly expensive, and unweildy. I remember a horrible vacation with my parents where I would have to carry around 2 giant ass battery packs and a camera to help record the events.  A Super 8 camera was about the best way to make crappy film projects.

We made some amazingly bad films.  Some of which are lost forever, but my friend's mom (the dear departed Barbara, a sweet lady who tolerated more shit than any mother I knew, but that's another story), had the foresight to get the films converted to video.  And when he stumbled on a tape of the stuff we made, I was ecstatic to say the least.

"Voodoo Devil Cats From Beyond The Grave" was filmed by yours truly, and featured our friend Jaime Yassin as some sort of retarded simple minded sort who abuses a cat, and is the target of revenge.  The cat was played by Bill's ever-tortured feline, "Tiger".  Bill would do things to this cat that PETA would have lynched a lesser man for.  Spinning him on a barstool and them chasing him round the house while he was dizzily bumping into walls, and other such abuses made Tiger the seasoned vet for a film such as this.

OK, the film's a big piece of shit, but it's kind of funny in it's own special way.  I converted it to a 1MB video file and added some sound to it for suspense, "Stravinsky's Firebird Suite".
