ALMOST COMPLETE APOCALYPSE

First and foremost, you can now buy the original and
extended cuts of Apocalypse Now in a single package with a ton of
extras for the insanely low price of $14, so to throw any complaints
on top of that is pretty damn petty. But that being said, it's
a shame that studio hurdles prevent the incredibly well done
documentary Hearts of Darkness, filmed by Coppola's wife, which to
this day has never been issued on DVD, was not included in the set.
The behind the scenes footage of a drunken Martin Sheen freaking out
in front the mirror, Brando raving, and the non stop long term
turmoil suffered by the director is sorely missed. But
again...only $14.
There's some great stuff in this
package, however, and it's getting some nice praise from folks who've
seen it in the retroCRUSH forums.
Baseball Furious writes,
"The deleted scenes in this new
version are pretty cool. As is the case with most deleted scenes
included in DVD packages, there's some that you can completely see
why they were left on the cutting room floor.
There are several included in this version that are very interesting.
From what I've read, the original screenplay was called "The
Psychedelic Soldier" (you can read it here -
http://www.dailyscript.com/scripts/apocolypse.html) & while it
was very similar to the final version of what became Apocalypse Now,
there were some notable differences. Some of the deleted scense
allude to some of the dialogue that was in the original version.
The scenes with Scott Glenn's character "Colby" & Dennis Hopper's
photojournalist character are great & definitely worth seeing.
