FANTAGRAPHICS BOOK O' BEASTS

"Laestrygonians" by Jordan Crane
If there's one thing
that unites all of humanity, it's their love of strange and unusual
creatures. From the most ancient cave paintings and writings
about dinosaurs, demons and devils, to the horrible Grendel in the
earliest English literature, from the classic monsters of Universal
Studios, to crazy Japanese spirits that come out of your TV and eat
your soul, creatures of all sorts have provided scares more horrific
than this grammatically tragic opening run-on sentence.
Fantagraphics has
assembled an all star assemblage of the most cutting edge artists
ever assembled. From retroCRUSH favorite Johnny Ryan, to
notables including Jordan Crane, Stan Sakai, Esther Pearl Watson, and
Steven Weissman, there's more mythological monster goodness within
this tome to shake the ugliest of ugly sticks at.

"Wolpertinger" by Heiko Muller
This is going to be no
ordinary book, mind you. With pages edged with gold leaf, and a
simulated antique cover, it looks to be a great tome that will both
amaze your friends and pick at your brain on those cold drunken
nights alone under your covers.

"Gaki" by Stan Sakai
Scheduled for release
in January, I was thrilled by the preview copy I received, which is
jam packed with limited edition print worthy artwork from beginning
to end. Each page is full of images that are shocking,
humorous, raw, intricate, and just plain damn good! Plus
there's a write up for each explaining vital details of the horrible
nasties within. These are all creatures that people actually
believed to have existed at one time. And who are we to say for
sure that they don't?
