Ann Miller was truly one of the great
retro beauties, with that Betty Grable style classic 40s era
pin up look that makes you think of apple pie and patriotism.
I didn't know too much about her until I found out she died
yesterday, and was amazed to see what a knockout she was. Her
skill for insanely fast tap dancing routines (she reportedly could
crank out 500 taps per minute), ended up overshadowing her acting
ability, and she became typecast in lower budget dancing movies as
her career went on. According to the IMDB, she refused to make
films from the late 50s on, because of her aversion to sex and
nudity in modern movies, which was ironic as she took a part in
David Lynch's sleaze-fest, Mullholland Drive in her return to
cinema.
