A Forgotten Classic, The 1983 Trailer for “Hambone and Hillie”

Hambone and Hillie is a largely forgotten film from 1983 about a dog trying to find his way home. It’s one of those feel good animal movies akin to Benji, and despite the ambitious narration in this trailer, which sets America up to expect the next E.T., it shockingly disappeared shortly after it was released and aside from an initial Beta and VHS home video release, it has been out of print ever since. It’s notable for featuring OJ Simpson, and is the first live action movie role for Mr. Wil Wheaton of Stand by Me and Star Trek The Next Generation fame. You can catch a quick glimpse of Wil at the 1:11 mark, acting alongside the legendary Lillian Gish!

What really troubles me is the very weird scene at the 1:59 mark which seems to show a pregnant woman giving birth to Hambone. Maybe she’s the grandmother of the Anti-Christ! Check out other great retro favorites like Candy Clark, Alan Hale, and Nicole Eggert in this trailer, as well!
