There’s so much not to like about Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman film I could go on for days and still have boiling hot nerd rage, but so much of what he did with Jack Nicholson’s Joker character is simply beautiful. I love this scene the best, which features Jack in a back alley surgeon’s office trying to get patched up after being shot in the face and falling into a pit of toxic chemicals. The broken mirror, the neon in the window, the laughing, the swinging light, and the gruesome medical equipment are a perfect mix in this scene, which only gives you a brief glimpse at Batman’s new arch nemesis. A later scene where he shoots up Jack Palance is equally beautiful. (CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE ACTUAL VIDEO, as embedding is disabled). The Simpsons did a great homage to the scene featuring Lisa getting braces, but unfortunately I can’t find it on Youtube to share with y’all.
